This course covers the different types of medication and what they are used for. You will also gain an understanding of how to store and dispose of medicines in a safe way, how to administer medicines safely and how to ensure that record keeping and audits are completed correctly.

In England, you will gain an accredited Level 2 qualification.

In Scotland, this course is comparable to a Level 5 based on the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework. Upon completion of the course, learners in Scotland will receive a digital e-certificate issued by your college.

    Unit 1: Understand medication and prescriptions

    This unit will cover the different types of medication that individuals may encounter in the workplace, the classification of medication and sources of information and guidance when developing your understanding of medication.

    Unit 2: Logistical aspects of handling medication

    You will gain an understanding of how to obtain, handle, store and dispose of medication and equipment correctly.

    Unit 3: Understand how to administer and support individuals to self-administer medication

    This unit covers the administration of medication by looking at the process and common side effects, as well as how to follow procedures when problems occur and monitoring the effects of medication.

    Unit 4: Legislation, guidance and audit processes for medication in health and social care settings

    You will develop an understanding of the audit process, including the records that must be maintained within the administration of medicines and issues of responsibility and confidentiality.
